About

about_me

Hi, I’m Ben Smith.

I’m originally from Minnesota, but a lot of my time these days is spent in Indiana, where I’m a student at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.  And even that will change in a year, as I’ll be graduating with a degree in Software Engineering and moving someplace else.  So for now let’s just say I’m in transition.

Here’s some more quick facts about me:

  • I’ve got one sister who’s just starting high school, but is going to be an awesome fashion designer someday with the talent she has.
  • I wrote for Mental Floss magazine’s website during the summer of 2008.  You can read more about that and find links to all my articles here.
  • Contrary to most college students, I’m not really all that big a fan of pizza.  I suppose 6 months working as a cook at Pizza Hut during high school didn’t exactly help.
  • I am a huge fan of cooking, though.  Alton Brown is basically awesome.
  • Music always has and probably always will be a part of my life.  I’m currently a DJ for WMHD (the college radio station) and I’ll post more info on the shows I’m a part of when school starts up again
  • I’m a voracious reader.  Stephen King is probably one of my favorites, although David Sedaris and Douglas Adams are pretty good as well
  • I’m pop-culture and cult-TV obsessed.  Amongst some of my favorite shows: Twilight Zone (the original series), The Avengers, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and Doctor Who

About This Site

I used to have a livejournal (which you’re welcome to read if you like what you’ve read so far), but decided to finally take the plunge and buy some webspace of my own July 2009.  This blog is an extension of the old one, but I also want it to be an evolution, where I’m talking about what’s going on outside of my life as well as what’s going on there.  Here’s what you can expect:

  • My life and my experiences
  • Projects I’m working on and have come up with
  • Opinions/Reactions to what’s going on in the world
  • Music writing (I write reviews for the college paper)
  • Stupid web things I find amusing (that haven’t already been posted everywhere else)

This blog’s published using WordPress and uses a version of the Clean Home theme that I modified myself.
